Backlit Numeric Keypads
for Access Control Systems
Access-control devices generally require keypads with a distinctive, stylish appearance, IP65-rated protection, backlit keys with audible feedback, and painted or anodised aluminium-alloy housings. DAVOLIN builds to those requirements — and beyond.
ENGINEERING APPROACH
Solutions
Integrate PIN entry without unnecessary changes to the existing cabinet controller. The smart key management project demonstrates mechanical and matrix-pinout matching.

01
Preserve cabinet compatibility
Match the enclosure, mounting points and connector position so the replacement input module fits the existing smart key cabinet.
02
Reproduce the controller’s matrix mapping
Confirm the original circuit and pin assignment before development. The documented 12-key module retained the controller mapping with a 7-pin JST XH 2.54 connector.
03
Specify durable, readable legends
Review etched, oil-filled legends and the curing process for repeated public use. Verify the completed keypad in the target unit before ongoing production.

Security & Access Control · Documented smart key cabinet project
Custom D-89222 Keypad for PIN-Based Key Collection
Challenge. An unattended outdoor key cabinet needed a replacement keypad that retained the original mechanical fit, matrix circuit and pin assignment for authorized PIN entry.
Solution. DAVOLIN developed the D-89222 stainless steel 12-key keypad, matched the cabinet structure, reproduced the matrix mapping from original PCB photos and used etched, oil-filled legends.
Result. The completed keypad was verified in the smart key management units and moved into ongoing production while preserving the controller’s required electrical mapping.
Evidence boundary. The customer is not named and the source does not specify an ingress-protection rating. The documented application is a smart key cabinet, not a claimed installation in every type of access-control system.
